Join us for an informative day with leading industry experts discussing Alternative varieties and how they may benefit your business. We are excited to announce three very informative speakers and leading industry experts in their field.

  1. Kim Chalmers – Kim is from the Chalmers family, Mildura and Kim will discuss how the family visited Europe and began importing alternative varieties. Kim will cover all issues around the varieties the Chalmers Family imported and the issues aaround propagation, winemaking and marketing. Kim is also a founding member of 21st Century Vino, a celebration of alternative vareities held annually in Melbourne.
  2. Inca Pearce – Inca is the CEO of Vinehealth Australia and she will discuss issues surrounding the Australian Wine Industry at present. Inca has vast knowledge on biosecurity, plant disorders, Phylloxera , Pierces disease and other exotic plant pests that threaten the viability of our industry. This is a session not to be missed as interest in biosecurity is currently at an all time high throughout the wine industry.
  3. Penny Grant – Penny is a leading sommelier in Brisbane and she will cover how Queensland wine is rated on the Brisbane wine scene, are alternative varieties being accepted in the restaurant scene and how to market your wines in southern Queensland.

In the afternoon we will be joined by Kim and Inca and have a walk and talk through the Vineyard of the Future Project at QCWT. This will be quite informative as Kim is an industry expert on alternative varieties.

Alternative Variety Tasting

Following the walk we will  present 10 wines 5 White and 5 Red alternative wines that are making their presence felt on the Australian wine scene.

The QWIA annual general meeting will following the conclusion of this seminar at 4:00pm.
