The Food, Wine and Tourism Gateway Schools program is proud to partner with Restaurant 98 to bring you industry insight and hands-on experience in the restaurant industry.

Join us in learning from one of Rockhampton’s top rated restaurants, where you will learn industry expectations and what challenges are faced daily.  You will also have the opportunity to get hands on experience in preparing a dish with Restaurant 98’s Sous Chef Sophie Markey.

10am  Meet the owner Janet Kavanagh for Front of House overview and expectations from new staff

10.30am  Sophie will take you through a hands on cooking session while discussing kitchen management and operations as well as useful industry tips.

12.30pm  Lunch

1pm  Janet and Sophie will talk about their journey and industry trends.  Q&A session.

A certificate of currency with the standards affected will also be provided for this day for auditing purposes.

Janet has been operating businesses for over 37 years in retail and hospitality.  She has been the co-owner and operator of Restaurant 98 for the past 3 years.  Since taking over in 2015 the restaurant has received the reputation of being one of the best in Rockhampton.  Janet has orchestrated the main event of the Food and Wine Festival in 2015 and 2016 serving a 6 course meal and hosting some of Australia’s renowned celebrity chefs.
